ABOUT
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Freddy Mahugu is truly a citizen of the world. His extensive travel throughout Africa, Europe and Asia has given him keen insight into the human condition. His photography reflects his belief that we are all one people, each defined and united by our struggles that cross all social and geographic boundaries. Freddy believes that we all have a story to tell, but not always an audience to listen – he is driven to capture this truth through his lens.
At the culmination of his travels, he landed in New York City where he obtained an International Baccalaureate Diploma from the United Nations International School. New York City, a melting pot of cultures and personalities, was the perfect training ground for his craft. Freddy continues to draw inspiration from the people he encounters in his daily life. He believes that knowing a person’s story is the key to capturing a strong image; his honesty and authenticity puts people at ease and allows them to reveal the truths about themselves. He prides himself on developing relationships with his clients that last well beyond the still imagery.
Freddy holds a degree in Financial Economics from Binghamton University. He is a published photographer and has created portfolios for several top recording artists including Drake, Busta Rhymes, and Jadakiss. His favorite subject, however, is his beautiful daughter, Arielle.
